ACCA
ACCA is one of the world's most portable accounting qualifications, recognised across 180+ markets. It runs three levels and up to 13 exams, with generous exemptions that can shorten the journey considerably. Here's the full structure, the entry requirements, and how exemptions work.
Overview
ACCA is structured so you build from the fundamentals of accounting up to strategic, professional-level decision-making:
Alongside the exams you complete the Ethics and Professional Skills module and, for membership, the Practical Experience Requirement (PER) of 36 months in a relevant role.
Depending on your prior study — a relevant degree, a diploma, or another professional qualification — ACCA may award exemptions from some Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills exams, so you start further up the ladder. We help you check your exemptions before you register so you only pay to study what you actually need to sit.
The full structure
Click any level to see its exams and the entry requirements to begin it.
Open entry for most students — begin ACCA with no formal qualifications via the Applied Knowledge exams, or enter through the ACCA Foundations in Accountancy route. Graduates typically start here or skip ahead with exemptions.
Completion of Applied Knowledge (or equivalent exemptions). Graduates with relevant degrees and holders of other professional qualifications may be exempt from some or all Applied Skills exams. We confirm your exemptions before you enrol.
Completion of Applied Skills. Complete both Essentials and any two Options, finish the Ethics and Professional Skills module, and meet the 36-month Practical Experience Requirement to become an ACCA member.
The Ethics and Professional Skills module develops the judgement, communication and professionalism expected of an ACCA member. It's best completed before or during the Strategic Professional level, and is a requirement for membership. Our materials include guidance on working through it efficiently.
